World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation -- Laudato Si’ video

Catholic Earthcare Australia celebrates World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation by releasing Laudato Si’ video.

Catholic Earthcare Australia is celebrating the very first World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on September 1 by releasing a short video entitled Laudato Si’ – An urgent appeal for action.
The video features three prominent Catholic leaders – Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana (Apostolic Nuncio to Australia), Bishop Michael Kennedy (Bishop of Armidale and Chair of Catholic Earthcare Australia) and Jacqui Rémond (Director of Catholic Earthcare Australia). It offers a uniquely Australian perspective on Pope Francis’ new Encyclical Laudato si’, and a direct call to action for the Australian Catholic community.
The message in Laudato Si’ – An urgent appeal for action resonates strongly on World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. Pope Francis would like this day to be a time for individuals and communities to “reaffirm their personal vocation to be stewards of creation, to thank God for the wonderful handiwork which he has entrusted to our care, and to implore his help for the protection of creation as well as his pardon for the sins committed against the world in which we live.” This video highlights the urgent nature of his appeal, particularly here in Australia.
Catholic Earthcare Australia hopes that this video will act as a catalyst for reflection and action. Jacqui Rémond, Director of Catholic Earthcare Australia, is urging communities, schools and parishes to watch the video together, to reflect on its message and then dialogue about what actions can be taken at an individual, family, community and national level to care for Planet Earth, our common home.

You can add your voice of opposition to euthanasia via the Petition link

Dear Friends,

The State Parliamentary Health Committee has been asked to give weight to the views of the community in its final report about the suitability of introducing Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation similar to that now operating in Victoria.

Here is a tangible way to share your views with them via a newly raised e-petition “Euthanasia – we can live without it.”

While this is a privately generated petition, the local Church is in total agreement with its call for properly funded palliative care across all metropolitan and regional areas of Queensland as the only outcome to pursue.

You can add your voice of opposition to VAD/ euthanasia via the Petition link here: https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/petition-details?id=3176

Please feel free to share this link with anyone else in your network who opposes VAD / euthanasia.

Message from Archbishop Mark

Dear Friends,

The euthanasia / voluntary assisted dying / assisted suicide debate is very topical at the moment with the first reported death in Victoria and the WA parliament set to introduce legislation shortly.

I will be appearing before the Parliamentary Health Committee in late August to present the Catholic Church's position.

As you have previously shown interest in safeguarding the dignity of human beings at every stage of life I thought you might like to know about this event at Brisbane City Hall on August 22<https://actonit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5753cccfee99af296cdbe1952&id=88a5f24c1a&e=bcdbace693>.

There's no charge to attend but an RSVP ahead of time will ensure you a seat.

In addition to being a respected filmmaker Kevin is a committed Catholic, so his viewpoint will be very interesting to hear.

As always in the Lord,
Archbishop Mark Coleridge
