Lights for all: Many families enjoyed the Lights of Christmas at St Stephen’s Cathedral last year.
HISTORIC St Stephen’s Cathedral will come alive again this Advent season, as the Lights of Christmas returns to Brisbane for its second year.
Tens of thousands gathered around the cathedral in 2018 to celebrate the joy of Christmas with the extraordinary sound and light show designed by AGB Events, the creators of The Lights of Christmas at St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney.
This year the free event will run from Wednesday, December 11, until Christmas Eve and include music, food and children’s activities from 6.30pm followed by the 12-minute show running continuously from 7pm.
A digitally-animated tale celebrating the true spirit of Christmas will be projected onto the walls of the cathedral, while a kaleidoscope of moving colour will transform the adjacent St Stephen’s Chapel.

Brisbane archdiocese’s Resource Development Office director Mary Macuga said the event was a wonderful way to invite the community to enjoy one of the city’s most beautiful and historic spaces.
“We welcomed people of all ages, faiths, cultures and backgrounds last year. We had retirees, families, Christmas shoppers, community groups and visitors to Brisbane all join in the festivities,” Mrs Macuga said.
“The response was overwhelming and we are looking forward to wowing audiences again this year with a brand new show.”
The Lights of Christmas at St Stephen’s Cathedral is supported by Australian Catholic University, Australian Catholic Superannuation Retirement Fund, Queensland Government, St Vincent’s Health Australia, AGB Events and Catholic Church Insurance.
St Stephen’s Cathedral, on Elizabeth Street in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD, is easily accessed by public transport.
